Not that it matters but…
DAVE COLICCHIO (33, has a unique creative voice, a strong propensity for goofiness, and a stellar work ethic.)
I love telling stories. Whether they’re told in song, on the page, on the screen, in a living room, or backyard, or on the internet - telling stories brings me the most joy and gives me purpose. It’s why I’m here - and why YOU’RE here - on my website!
So here’s my story:
At age 5 I was obsessed with Barney, Power Rangers, and any cartoon I could find on television. When my kindergarten teacher asked what we wanted to be when we grow up, I said “What do you call the people who do the voices in cartoons?”
At age 12 I discovered the guitar - it was probably one of the many guitars laying around the house that belonged to my father, a music teacher. My first band obsession was, of course, AC/DC. The guitar led me to songwriting, producing, and performing - which would make up the entirety of my being from age 12 until 27.
Still, at age 13 my Bar Mitzvah theme was Movies - including Austin Powers, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix and a bunch of other movies I wasn’t supposed to be watching.
I studied Songwriting at Berklee College of Music and after I graduated, I got to perform all over the world. From a below-freezing Christmas tree lighting in Kennebunk, Maine to a Pride festival in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to a little bar on a cruise ship in Australia and New Zealand, performing brought me all over. I absolutely loved it (except for, ya know, all the bullshit.)
One day I was offered a gig performing at libraries with Turtle Dance Music. The money was good - I took it! What began as your standard “Wheels on the Bus” gig evolved and grew and became my obsession. Before I knew it I had written four albums of original music for Turtle Dance Music including a show called “Space! The Cosmos for Kids!” inspired by my own love of all things “space,” that is still performed today.
On a whim, I downloaded a trial of the Adobe software package and started learning. I made a little animation of Turtle Dance Music’s mascot, which evolved into a full-on web series. I did everything: Design, animation, scripting, voices, music - A to Z, I did it all. I made six episodes and several music videos, which became the portfolio I used to land a job as an Associate Producer at Nick Jr. YouTube.
This new job cemented my transition from music to TV and Digital Media - a difficult change, but one I’m glad that I made. Since then I’ve been a part of well over 700 videos across the Nick Jr. Channels and have had my hand in writing, producing, editing, voice-over, music composition and production, strategy, management and more at the Nickelodeon Digital Studio.
I’ve always been a writer in one way or another, but discovering Screenwriting marked a huge shift in my life.
I began taking screenwriting classes and was quickly consumed by the puzzle of it all. Writing comedy television became my North Star, and I’ve thought about it every day since.
In 2024 I moved to Las Vegas with my wife and two cats to escape the high rent and be closer to LA. In my free time I like to ride my bike, play with my cats, and work on my latest writing sample.
